Founded in the 12th century, named Cantemerle in 1340 and at that time planted with vines, Cantemerle has one of the longest histories in Bordeaux. It was mistakenly left off the 1855 classification of all Left Bank properties, but its owner then, Mme Villeneuve Dufort, insisted it was given its deserved 5th growth status. One of only two changes ever made to this document. In 1981, new owners made major renovations, planted more Cabernet Sauvignon in the 92 hectares of vineyards and used a greater percentage of new oak. The result is a firmer, richer, longer lived wine. Bear in mind this wine is 9 years old, so already evolved with delicate fruit, leather and spice notes. Stand upright for a few hours in case of sediment, and decant.
