Château Hartes is a small estate, making attractive classic wines in Targon, in the Entre Deux Mers. It has 15 hectares of vines, with excellent maturity – a contiguous single vineyard of limestone soils with boulbènes (fine clay) surrounding the château. The property was purchased by the Mazeau family in 1972, since when renovation work has brought it up to scratch. 2018 is a very highly rated vintage. Antoni Galloni of Vinous wrote, "2018 offers a tremendous amount of choice for the consumer, from everyday gems to the rarest of collectibles", while James Suckling described the wines as "beautifully structured with ripe fruit and potent tannins". For best results, open early and serve with roast beef, toad in the hole or a vegetarian stew.
