Château Haut-Bernicot 2018

Bordeaux AOC

Excellent quality claret from a terrific vintage, that makes divine drinking now, yet will also age for a few years yet. The best of both. From the Entre Deux Mers region of Bordeaux, the wine shows real class – ripe fruit, depth and structure.

Château Haut-Bernicot has been winning Golds and praise since it was taken over in 2008 by Sébastien Dumas. The Times named the 2014 as one of their Top 50 buys of the summer, describing it as a "fragrant, cedary, merlot-dominated claret" and the 2017 most recently won Gold at Frankfurt and Silver at Lyon. The property lies in Blasimon in Bordeaux's Entre-Deux-Mers, a region renowned for its excellent value, Merlot-based clarets. Plus, of course, crisp dry whites and a few sweeties too. This silky, fruit filled claret delivers a lot of flavour for the money. Open early if you can and decant to let it breathe. Enjoy with classic meat dishes – roasts or grilled steak, or stuffed portobello mushrooms.

"Nab this fragrant, cedary, merlot-dominated claret topped up with cabernet sauvignon — and rejoice" Jane MacQuitty
