Following on from the 'vintage of a lifetime' 2009 and 2010, it's no wonder 2011 was overlooked when released. However, try a Grand Cru wine like this now and you'll see how really well they've aged. This is a delicious 2011 from Château La Croix de Tourans. Its vineyards lie on clay and limestone soils on the slopes of Saint Etienne de Lisse. Yields are kept low through careful vineyard management, to ensure good intensity of flavour, while the grapes are rigorously sorted so that only the ripest fruit makes it into the cuvée. After fermentation the wine was matured in barrel to give the perfect balance of ripe fruit and complex oak notes. A beautifully crafted claret and a perfect partner for a Sunday roast or venison casserole.
