The tiny appellation of Pomerol is home to the world's greatest Merlot, and some of the finest, most sought-after Bordeaux of all. None more so than the wines made by the Moueix family, responsible for legendary Château Pétrus as well as La Fleur-Pétrus, its impeccable sister property. 2019 was another hot Bordeaux vintage, but its wines show a pleasing freshness too, perhaps more than 2018. The Right Bank excelled, producing wines with luscious fruit and the structure to hold it in place for, in this case, decades to come. Hand-harvested grapes, 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, are long-aged in 50% new oak barriques to produce one of the most elegant and refined of all Pomerols. Particularly in this exceptional vintage. Best after 2028.
