With 61 hectares of vineyard in total (only 27 used for the Grand Vin), Château Laroque is one of the larger estates of Saint Emilion. This takes nothing away from the quality however. That's clear from 95 points from Wine Advocate and 94 from Suckling. The latter described it as, "really delicious with so much dark-berry and stone character. One of the best from here." Owned by the Beaumartin family, it was awarded Grand Cru Classé status in 1996. Merlot is, unsurprisingly, its speciality grape, with a little Cabernet Franc, and their Grand Vin receiving a year in oak. Half of that is new, which means the layers of firm tannins and vanilla oak spice are substantial, and just right for long ageing. Keep for a couple of years at least.

"Packed with juicy black fruits, supported by plush tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long" Lisa Perrotti-Brown
