Bordeaux is known for its long-lived reds, of course. But don't to overlook its dry whites. In 1950 they made up half of the whole Bordeaux output - today it's less than 10%. But whilst the quantity has dipped, the quality has rocketed. That's because the vines that were left tend to be old, perfectly-sited, and nurtured by people obsessed with good dry white Bordeaux – the people who refused to grub up their vineyards and replant fashionable Merlot and Cabernet. Château Lary Lacombe is a terrific example - predominantly Sauvignon Blanc, with a good splash of classic Sémillon for extra roundness and ripeness, and a dash of Muscadelle for beautiful floral aromatics. If you’ve never tried zesty, appetising white Bordeaux, start right here!
