Château Les Tresquots 2016

Médoc AOC Cru Bourgeois

Cru Bourgeois wines are a step up in quality, yet this is rarely reflected in their price. Château Tresquots, with its many famous neighbours, is a prime example. Generous with fruit and ample in style, it's an attractive Merlot rich claret with age.

Château Les Tresquots lies in Bégadan in the northern part of the Médoc, indeed, just on the edge of the Haut Médoc. Its neighbours include Châteaux La Tour de By and Pâtache d'Aux, so we know the territory is very good. The fourth generation Reich family are in charge of the property and make a rich, fruit forward style of wine, velvety in texture, yet with the potential for ageing. The 2015 vintage release won a Gold at the Concours de Bordeaux;the superb 2016 is a little more classic in style thanks to the vintage. Merlot supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and with gentle oak, this is a generous style, ready to drink, but worth decanting 30-60 minutes beforehand. Ideal with rack of lamb or steak, roast chicken or with a rich moussaka.

"Rich, blackcurrant and blackberry-flavored wine is perfumed, spicy and lightly smoky from wood aging" Roger Voss
