Château Malescot Saint Exupéry is an 18th century estate that slipped into disrepair before the Zuger family took control in 1955. They invested significantly and wine quality has returned to the high levels you'd expect. Indeed, under Jean Luc Zuger, it is one of the best maintained and quality driven of Margaux estates. The Grand Vin is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown on the estate’s deep, well drained, gravelly soil, divided into five separate parcels. Hand harvesting, a showpiece gravity-fed cellar (the first in the region) and 16 months’ ageing in 80% fine new oak have added layers of subtle complexity and vanilla oak notes to the deep, luscious fruit. While approachable now, this will reward further cellaring.
