In a vintage characterised by “finesse, perfume and aromatic intensity, as opposed to weighty richness” (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, RobertParker.com), this 2017 Château Marsau steps things up a big notch. With a lovely richness and intensity, medium full body and chewy tannins, it’s a good, solid red that stands out from the crowd. No surprise, when its owner is Jean Marie Chadronnier, President of major négociant, Dourthe. Pure Merlot, this wine has classic Bordeaux charm, while cooler weather in August has lent a freshness to Merlot’s dark berry fruit. This balances the intense chocolate and spice notes which give it length. Awarded 92-93 Points by James Suckling, this is a red to savour. Best enjoyed with great company and a rich meat dish.
