There is an enormous praise for the Bordeaux 2019 vintage – critic Neal Martin wrote, it “is a wonderful vintage to finish the decade. It is a style of wine that I personally adore”. And with 100 points from Antoni Galloni and 97 from James Suckling, plus a good few others besides, this is a very fine, second-growth Saint-Estèphe. Château Montrose may be the youngest Cru Classé of Saint-Estèphe, created from land bordering Calon-Ségur at the start of the 19th century, but it's one of its top stars. With beautifully situated vineyards and well-equipped, impeccably clean cellars, its château buildings are modest, with views over the Gironde, but its wines are not. “Polished and very fine with lovely length” (James Suckling on the 2019).
