Château Moulin du Peyrat 2019

Medoc AOC

From a vintage widely proclaimed as "outstanding", "excellent" and "incredibly high quality" by the world's top wine critics, this is a lovely ripe Bordeaux. Unusually high in Merlot for a Médoc, it's silky and already makes very appealing drinking.

Bordeaux has been exceptionally lucky in the last few years with a run of outstanding vintages. Jeb Dunnock called 2019 "a beautiful, incredibly high-quality vintage", and Neal Martin in Vinous, "a wonderful vintage to finish the decade". And there is much more praise besides. You'll taste that excellence in the superb ripeness of this Médoc's fruit, its supple tannins and its depth. It's from a small estate only established in 1999 and bought by Olivier Rousseau in 2010. To use nearly all Merlot is unusual for this part of Bordeaux, but clearly works in this forward, ripely fruity Médoc. It's already very approachable, but would benefit from being opened and decanted beforehand. A superb red with roast meats or a hearty cobbler casserole.

"Superb balance of fresh fruit, ripeness and silky tannins. A very appealing claret already" Jennie Perry
