Château Rauzan-Ségla 2017

Margaux AOC 2eme Grand Cru Classe

The 2017 vintage was all about perfume and finesse, which suits the aromatic Margaux style to a tee. Rauzan Ségla is a classic, generous example that earned 93-95 scores from top critics. Warm cassis, ripe plum, lavender over firm tannins. Very fine.

Critic Antonio Galloni exclaimed “What a gorgeous wine”, on tasting the 2017 Rauzan-Ségla. This fine property has certainly hit the mark in 2017 with many top scores. The estate dates back a long way – to 1661 and during the 19th century, it was ranked alongside Mouton. Wine wise, its most interesting history, however, is from 1983. It employed the great Emile Peynaud and extensive renovations were made. In 1994, Chanel's Wertheimer brothers took ownership and started a full restoration of the château, the cellar and the vineyards. Today they take a more organic approach with the vines, vinify in small batches, and use up to 60% new oak. Under the guidance of Nicolas Audebert, quality has risen further still. A very fine Margaux.
