Here's a delicious, mellow claret with a remarkable 10 years' age. You'll notice that the fruit has evolved but it's still very pretty, with aromatic notes and complexity. All that from a humble 'Bordeaux Supérieur' just over the river from Libourne.

As it's name suggests, the Entre-Deux-Mers lies between two bodies of water. Not the sea exactly, but the two rivers Dordogne and Garonne. It's long been known for its crisp whites and fruit-filled clarets that are ready for drinking relatively young. Now meet Château Rochebert – a fifth-generation estate in the village of Beychac et Caillou with vines up to 100 years old. That ensures low yields and fabulous intensity that allow its wines to really go the distance. The 2012 is clear evidence. South-facing slopes ensure the grapes reach excellent ripeness too. 2012 wasn't a stand out vintage, but unlike warmer years, its wines can boast the tannins and freshness to ensure a long life. Full of mellow plum and cassis, this is a fine classic.
