Château Saint-Bonnet Médoc Cru Bourgeois 2014

Medoc AOC

Decanter magazine wrote "Bordeaux produced very good wine in 2014", with staying power too, if this fine Médoc is one to go by. From an excellent family estate, just north of Saint-Estèphe, this claret is now mellow, long and complex. A rare treat.

Classic Médoc from a family estate in Saint Christoly de Médoc, just north of Saint-Éstephe. Old vines, gravel soils and careful use of oak have resulted in a claret with layers of delicate, mellow fruit and toasty nuances. Great depth too, thanks to a very good Bordeaux vintage. With 8 years' ageing under its belt, this is drinking beautifully - the tannins have softened and the fruit has mellowed into maturity, enhanced by savoury, earthy hints and spice from the oak. Old vines on the estate have ensured excellent concentration with earthy, maturing red and black fruits typical of its Merlot/Cabernet blend, supple tannins, yet still with good freshness. A fine Cru Bourgeois, a classification that has to be earned every vintage.
