The Southern Rhône is arguably France’s best value classic wine region and with a run of excellent vintages, it was our first port of call when looking for new wines for 2019. There we discovered Domaine Saint Sauveur, a beautifully restored 12th century monastery in the shadow of Mont Ventoux, which has been run by the Rey family since 1936. The latest generation, Guylaine, Florence and Frank Rey, decided to run the vineyards organically and the entire estate was certified organic in 2015 The Vaucluse category allows winemakers to use a wider range of grape varieties than are allowed under strict appellation contrôlée rules for Côtes du Rhône or Ventoux wines Made from a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier and Muscat Petits Grains . A fresh, fruity and unoaked white with a beautiful perfume of citrus fruit, orange blossom and honeysuckle. Soft and rounded on the palate with more exotic fruit flavours opening up in the glass, it’s delicious with goat’s cheese or shellfish.
