A delightful, rich, supple wine with a Gold medal to boot. Half of it Merlot, the wine has an appealing velvety texture, while its large portion of Cabernet lends structure and depth. From a property recently lovingly restored, this is class claret!

Right in the south of the Médoc lies the little town of Saint Christoly. There the Gironde estuary is wide and acts as a climate moderator, ensuring winters aren’t severe and summers remain warm but not baking. The Total family owned this estate for many years, but recently, under new ownership, its gravel soil vineyards and cellars have been fully renovated. This shows in the rich quality of their wines. This is one from the high quality 2017 vintage, the wines of which are showing lovely ripeness of fruit and good depth. Not hugely tannic, they aren’t long keepers and this Bordeaux is thoroughly enjoyable now and over the next couple of years. Best to decant an hour beforehand. Then enjoy with fine roast red meats or steak and kidney pie.
