Lussac Saint Emilion is where the whole wine story started for Tony Laithwaite in 1965. First as a student, then in 1969 when he returned and finally started a business. He was always charmed by the silky ripe fruit and elegance of its wines. Subtle reds, not for easy glugging, but ideal with roast meats in particular. Today the charm of the wines is all still there, with an extra layer of fruit thanks to more modern techniques. This is a silky, Merlot based claret, its vines planted on classic clay and limestone soils. Hand harvesting and careful vinification captures the wine's deep fruit, while a year in seasoned barrels lends complexity. With four years' age, this claret makes a great partner to game, lamb or a rich mushroom dish.
