Although 2017 was Barolo's hottest, driest vintage on record, its wines have retained their freshness, intensity and poise. Perhaps with just a touch more supple fruit and rounded tannins. This is a superb example from a third generation estate. Celeste Corino moved to La Morra in the 1950s, working a patch of vines in exchange for a portion of the grapes. His grandson, Giuliano, is the third generation. Taking over in the mid-1980s, he insisted on making the wine himself, as well as tending the vines. It was an exciting period for Barolo and Giuliano experimented with many methods over the year, until he felt he'd got the formula right. Today, his wife and children help him in their small vineyard. Open and decant early or cellar.
