With over 300 years of tradition, Croft is one of the best known names in the Douro. The company was founded in York in 1588 by the Thompson family. The Portuguese connection began in 1707 when they joined forces with Irish brothers Thomas Phayre and Nathaniel Bradley, who were already trading from Oporto. In 1736 Yorkshireman John Croft joined and gave the firm its name. Today Croft’s jewel in the crown is Quinta do Roêda, one of the finest estates of the Douro, containing some of the region’s oldest vineyards, and the main source of wine for the firm’s vintage ports. 2017 was a great year, "the hallmarks are richness and ripeness supporting the purity of the fruit, with structure and concentration" (The Buyer). Cellar until at least 2026.
