Croix Canon 2020

Bordeaux AOC

A glorious second wine from one of Saint-Émilion's finest estates, Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Canon. Like the Grand Vin, Croix Canon retains that fine seam of freshness gained from limestone soils, intense fruit, sleek tannins. Very ageworthy.

Being a Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château Canon is one of Saint-Émilion's very finest estates, now owned by luxury house, Chanel. It lies southwest of its medieval namesake town, with vineyards on southfacing slopes for ripeness, with a rich seam of limestone in the soil. That ensures a core of intense freshness, even in the ripest years. A grand château's second wine is a great bet for claret lovers – a real flavour of the Grand Vin, but at a much more friendly price and ready to drink earlier. Croix Canon is an impressive blend of Merlot (65%) and Cabernet Franc, aged a full 18 months in part (30%) new oak barrels. It's a powerful, intensely flavoured, polished claret that will benefit from more time in the cellar. Open early and decant.
