Buyer Mark Hoddy wanted to create a fresh, characterful white that would showcase the exciting native varieties of southern France. The ones that most of us have never heard of – Loin de l’Oeil and Terret – plus better known Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier and so on. Grapes with abundant personality. He worked with highly respected winemakers Serge Dubois and Francis Terral, using largely grapes from a vineyard close to trendy Picpoul de Pinet (the wine that’s sprung onto every wine bar and restaurant list), plus a small portion from Gaillac in the southwest. It’s a beautifully balanced white with the creamy white peach fruit you expect from Picpoul, along with the bright citrusy zip of Gaillac. A refreshing glass solo or with lighter dishes.
