Leading American critic Robert Parker is a longtime fan of Cuvée du Vatican (apparently theirs was the first case of Châteauneuf-du-Pape he ever bought) and describes winemaker Jean Marc Diffonty as “an innovative visionary”. Jean Marc’s family have been at the heart of local life in Châteauneuf-du-Pape for centuries but it was in 1958 that they launched Cuvée du Vatican with the blessing of the Pope! Young and brooding, it’s packed full of rich, opulent dark fruit – blackcurrant and black cherry – with lots of Provençal herby spice.
