Cuvée des Pierres Dorées 2021

Beaujolais AOP

A charming red from France’s classic Beaujolais, a region that's roaring back into fashion. Using old-vine grapes from well-positioned vineyards and a difficult, but high-quality vintage, this is a silky, strawberry and floral-scented red.

With rolling hills and vineyards as high as 500 metres, Beaujolais is one of the prettiest of France’s wine regions. It lies on the southern tip of Burgundy, but king grape here is Gamay, not Pinot Noir. Its supple, fruity wines are well worth seeking out. This charming wine is from Les Vignerons des Pierres Dorées, a cellar which lies in the prized subregion of golden stones (Pierres Dorées), from which it takes its name. On the well-drained, stony soils of the area, Gamay achieves juicy ripeness while maintaining its natural, lively acidity. From a challenging, but high-quality vintage, this 2021 has bright berry fruit and incomparable quaffability. Great served cool on its own, with charcuterie or with rustic pâté and crusty bread.

"Excellent value. You could easily mistake this wine for one of the crus. Highly recommended" 5-Star Online Review
