Want to try one of the finest Shiraz wines in Oz? Take time out with this 90 point, five Gold, one Platinum gem. It’s from Dandelion Vineyards, an exciting project set up by Peggy and Carl Lindner, Elena and Zar Brooks, and Fiona and Brad Rey. With Elena in charge of winemaking, they source fruit from precious old vineyards in the Barossa, Eden Valley, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills. The Lioness fruit is taken from Helen and Angus Tuck’s old vines, in the subregion of Baker’s Gully. There, mature vines struggle on the ironstone, pebble laden, clay loam and produce gorgeously concentrated little berries. Whole bunches, wild yeasts, hand plunging and 18 months ageing in part new oak all add to the credentials. Magnificent, rich and long.
