Founded in 1934, the family owned De Martino estate is one of the most exciting cellars in Chile. It owns some of the country’s best vineyards, focuses on sustainability and produces great value, characterful wines. No surprise, then, it was voted Chile’s ‘Winery of the Year’. It’s based in the Maipo Valley – world famous for the quality of its Bordeaux style grapes. Indeed, this Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vineyard planted on alluvial flats (think poor, stony and well drained soils) similar to Bordeaux itself. What’s more, it’s from the great 2017 vintage. Expect a classic Cabernet, with rich black fruit and tobacco aromas, bold, fresh flavour and velvety tannins on the finish. Ideal with roasted red meats or aubergine lasagne.
