In their wild corner of Tasmania, between a treacherous corner of the Tamar river and the deep blue sea, the team at Devil's Point have learnt to tame nature. To work with it, not fight it. The result is some of the highest quality cool climate wines. No wonder James Halliday awarded the winery a full 5 stars. This 2016 Chardonnay is crafted from grapes predominantly from their vineyard on the East Coast. Here the cool sea breezes provide a long ripening season and give the wines high levels of natural acidity that balance the ripeness of the fruit. Fermentation with wild yeasts in barrel, lees ageing, malolactic fermentation – all Burgundy methods that add to the complexity – this is a very fine white. Reserve for seafood paella.
