Savigny “can be a marvel of finesse” and “up to the highest Beaune standard” (Hugh Johnson) and this delicious red from Camus Bruchon is on top form. When frost threatened in spring, growers were there with bonfires to ward it off. Quality is rewardingly high. This fine Savigny uses grapes from vines up to a century old, which lends the wine real presence and depth. It’s a deep cherry red with a wonderful nose of red and black berries. Rounded, balanced and powerful with gentle tannins and a long finish. The wine is aged on its lees in well seasoned French oak barrels and bottled without filtration to retain natural richness and balance. We recommend you decant two hours ahead. Enjoy with beef, panfried duck or cheeses such as Reblochon.
