It was Gaston Ravaut, known as ‘the Uncle’, who started planting vines around the hill of Corton in the 1920s. Next he began making wine for family and locals in the village. By 1936, with a Gold from Paris, the family had gained quite a reputation. Today brothers Vincent and Pierre, the sixth generation, continue the work, with Pierre taking charge in the vineyard and Vincent in the cellar. This magnificent Grand Cru lies in the north of the Côte de Beaune, a small, mid-slope area with clay-limestone soils. Quality in 2017 was very high, as you’ll taste in the pure, poised fruit of this expressive young Burgundy, with gentle spice from a year in barriques and the taut freshness for ageing. Tastes Grand Cru from start to finish. A keeper.

"Fleshy, ripe, sweetly spiced and wonderfully fruit-forward too. Expressive violet aromas" Richard Hemmingway MW
