Domaine Henri Gouges is one of Burgundy's most famous and finest estates – “the doyen of Nuits-Saint-Georges with magnificent wines” says Clive Coates MW. Their Hautes Côtes de Nuits comes from vineyards just above Nuits-Saint-Georges, the cooler climate of which lends that edge of freshness to the ripe fruit of this wine. Founder in 1919, Henri Gouges, was something of a Burgundian revolutionary. He was a key player in the battle against fraud and the first Burgundian to bottle his own wine, to guarantee provenance and quality. Domaine bottling is now practised throughout the region. His grandson Gregory runs the property today, with the same drive and passion as his legendary grandfather. This exceptional red will age well. Or open early.
