Gevrey Chambertin is one of the best known appellations of fine Burgundy. Its name quaintly stems from a peasant landowner, Monsieur Bertin, with a field. Over time ‘Le Champ de Bertin’ became known as Chambertin, now one of Burgundy’s most famous wines. Louis Boillot is the grandson of Henri Boillot, a well respected producer whose estate, in his time, covered 18 appellations. Louis’ father Lucien added to it and left Louis and his brother Pierre with 7 hectares each. Louis now has an impressive set of vineyards including eight Premiers Crus, some with very old vines. This fine red comes from plots 30-85 years old, so the wine has lovely concentration. "A fine Gevrey in the making" (Wine Advocate). Open early and decant, or cellar.
