The Boillot family have been producing wine in Burgundy for generations. They started in Volnay but, when Louis went solo in 2003, he moved to Chambolle. He had dreams of making Moulin à Vent too, hence this densely fruity, velvety, yet serious 2020.

Louis Boillot is the grandson of Henri Boillot, a well respected producer whose estate, in his time, covered 18 appellations. Louis’ father Lucien added to it and left Louis and his brother Pierre with 7 hectares each. Louis set up in Chambolle, with his winemaker wife Ghislaine Barthod, in 2003, and now has an impressive set of vineyards including eight Premiers Crus, with some very old vines. Their dream was to add Beaujolais Cru vineyards to their portfolio and in 2013, they achieved their goal. Les Rochaux is from a single hectare of pink granite, which results in structured wines for long ageing. Add in the almost drought conditions of 2020 and yields of 20hl/ha and this glorious, fruit-filled, serious red will cellar admirably.
