Domaine Matrot Meursault 2019

Meursault AOC

A glorious Meursault, an appellation that offers “a meeting of softness and succulence with thirst quenching clarity and cut” (Hugh Johnson). That's very apparent in this superb 2019 from "a top-class Meursault producer" (Wine International).

Burgundy’s Meursault may look like sleepy backwater, but its wines are some of the most prized. Domaine Matrot is a top-class estate, founded in 1909 by Joseph Matrot. Since 2015, the fourth-generation, sisters Elsa and Adèle, have held the reins and critic Neal Martin is full of praise: “Great wines are being made at this address.” Their Meursault is made from the rich fruit of 40-year-old Chardonnay vines, hence the lovely intensity, while wild-yeast fermentation in French oak and 11 months' lees ageing lends gorgeous layers of creamy complexity. All beautifully underscored by classic minerality (‘the cut’). The result is a wine of delicious freshness with creamy roundness, ripe peach and smoky honey notes. Lovely now; will age well.

"Yellow stone fruits. In a fatter style, very ripe fruits as well as clove and smoke notes" Stephen Tanzer
