Domaine MIA is one of the most important organic estates of the Côte Chalonnaise, now converting to more-exacting biodynamic methods too. Its vineyards include six climats – small areas creating unique and distinct wines. One of these is Les Rochelles in Mercurey. The sandy marl and limestone soils nurture vines that are nearly all 60 years old and, southwest facing, produce exceptional Chardonnay with great minerality, elegance and finesse. Since 2020, the next generation, Mia Subotic, has been in charge with help from leading consultant David Duband. Their processes are gentle and eco-friendly (down to the packaging too) – handpicking, whole bunch pressing and fermentation with wild yeasts, in part-new casks. A wine of depth and elegance.
