Jokingly describing himself as a 'lazy winemaker', Romain Taupenot orchestrates the work of the small family domaine (13 hectares) with his sister Virginie. Using organic practices, the dedicated siblings produce 19 different wines across 17 appellations with many being Premier or Grand Cru. Now the 8th generation to take charge, Romain remembers fondly helping his grandfather in the vineyard and cellar, then selling the wine along the route national (how times change!). In truth Romain is anything but lazy. His priority is hard work in the vineyard, so only a light hand is required in the cellar. From two parcels of hand picked, low yield, old vine grapes, this 1er Cru Auxey is a beautiful evocation of Pinot, gentle oak and a top vintage.
