Yann Chave may only have been producing Hermitage for two generations, but their dynamic, modern approach, combined with low-yielding old vines, makes it a red that no connoisseur’s cellar should be without.Just 1.5 hectares of vines from the excellent Beaume and Préléat lieux dits provide the Syrah grapes for Yann Chave’s Hermitage. Making it a very rare wine indeed It is vinified in stainless steel, then gently rested in oak for 17 months to let tannins unfurl and develop greater complexity and mouthfeel. Dark red with a near-black core. Briar fruits: blackberries and blackcurrants, augment a pleasantly lifted leafiness. Supple tannins and riper cherries are joined on the palate by a touch of menthol. Already hard to resist, but will certainly reward cellaring
