Domaine de Biéville 2019

Chablis AOC

Each year Louis Moreau holds on until the last moment to harvest. It takes nerves of steel but it clearly pays off, as his wines combine a wonderful citrus intensity with classic steely freshness. From a mature single vineyard, this is a superb 2019.

Sometimes it pays to be last. When neighbours in Chablis start their grape harvest, Louis Moreau waits. Just a few days, but it’s nerve racking, especially when the summer is as warm as in 2019. The reward is a Chablis with extra levels of ripeness and intensity. (And that's in a vintage already considered one of "pure pleasure and impeccable balance".) Louis is the sixth generation of his family at the domaine - they celebrated their 200th anniversary in 2014 – and over that time, they have acquired many small parcels of vines. All the grapes for Biéville come from a single vineyard planted in 1965 by his father. It has ideal terroir for Chardonnay, as you'll taste in this superb 2019. Serve cellar cool, ideally with a plate of oysters.
