Maisonneuve is a third-generation estate in satellite Saint-Emilion region, Saint-George. The family also own Pavie Macquin. Typical for the Right Bank, this wine is rich in Merlot, while a year in oak lends sweet spice to the rich, plummy fruit.

François-Albert Macquin took over this domaine in Saint-George-Saint-Emilion in 1885 (the same year he purchased Pavie Macquin) and it is today run by his grandson, Denis Corre-Macquin. Bordering Saint-Emilion proper, the vines are located on a south-facing hilltop with excellent sun exposure and chalky soils, both ideal for quality Merlot. Aged for 12-18 months in oak barrels, a third of them new, this is a serious wine, with ripe fruit laced by gentle spice. With aromas of red fruit with sweet spices mixed with savoury, woody notes, it's round and supple, with soft tannins on the finish. A classic Right Bank claret from this 5-Star vintage, it would be a dream served with chicken with morels, wild mushrooms with rice or beef Wellington.
