Domaine des Tourelles Rouge du Liban 2019

Beqaa Valley

Tim Atkin MW wrote "Lebanon is the wine world's best kept secret", and one we'd like to tell you about! This appealing, silky red is from the Bekaa Valley's first winery, a Trophy winner too. Classic bright red fruits, light spice, silky and fresh.

Awarded IWC's 'Lebanese Winery of the Year 2018' Trophy, Domaine des Tourelles is the oldest cellar in the country. It was founded in 1868 by French born François Eugene Brun, who showed how the Bekaa Valley could produce world class wine. It remained with the Bruns until 2003 when the Issa family took ownership. Their vineyards lie over 1000m high and are blessed with sunshine for 240 days a year. Such idyllic conditions produce healthy ripe grapes and great wines. Winemaker today is Faouzi Issa, hailed to be the next Serge Hochar (of Musar fame). He trained at Château Margaux, then with the Rhône's René Rostaing and was cited as among the 'Ten Most Influential Wine People' by Executive Magazine. A Bordeaux style red, with appealing fruit.
