The secret to Stéphane Robert's mesmirising Cuvée Prestige is its vines – nearly all 80+ year-old Marsanne vines. This beautiful, pure-fruit white has lovely weight, roundness and texture, with ripe pear notes and mineral poise. A terrific white.

In 1994, at just 24, Stéphane Robert began to build his domaine, from nothing! He started by leasing vines, then gradually bought a few parcels, so that now he has 11 hectares in Saint-Péray, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, Condrieu and also Côtes du Rhône. He champions Syrah for his reds, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier for whites. Old vines and granite soils are key to him and in 2014 he built a new winery (in an old steam train tunnel, hence the domaine's name) to take quality higher. His Cuvée Prestige is his top Saint-Péray, nearly all the grapes taken from this 80-year-old Marsanne vineyard, complemented by Roussanne. Fermented and aged in vat, it sees no oak. Intense, creamy peach and roundness, with mineral intensity, this is pure delight.
