John and Audrey Matheson founded their Central Otago estate in 2000, naming it after Drumsara in County Derry. It lies high in the Alexandra Basin, just 2km from where Central Otago's first vines were planted. Their first vintage was 2004 and by 2007, they'd won 'Best Pinot Noir' at the Sydney competition, and 'Best Central Otago Pinot Noir'. Their outstanding 2014 saw a shower of praise from critics, scoring a perfect 5-stars from Peter Saunders and 94pts from Cameron Douglas. Only their finest, estate grapes are included in their top Pinot, with the 'malo' ferment in 70% new oak and almost a year's ageing in old oak barrels. Now 8 years old, this Pinot has lovely dark fruit complexity. Enjoy with slow-cooked lamb or truffle risotto.
