Aconcagua Valley is renowned for its Cabernets and is home to some of the country’s finest reds. It is one of the most privileged positions in Chile where long hours of sunshine and cooling breezes from the Andes combine to provide perfect growing conditions and make this a true ‘winemaker’s paradise’.Made by Horacio Vicente, a former winemaker at Bordeaux first-growth Château Mouton Rothschild. There is more than a nod to his Bordeaux training in this classy Cabernet Sauvignon which combines ripe Chilean fruit with subtlety and finesseHoracio’s father founded Viña San Esteban in 1974 and was pioneering in planting vineyards on hillsides in the Aconcagua ValleyThe vineyards at Viña San Esteban are some of the highest in the region. At around 800 metres, they are cooler than many Chilean vineyards resulting in an almost Bordeaux-like elegance. This Cabernet Sauvignon shows off the rich, ripe black fruits of Cabernet Sauvignon with barrel ageing adding a sophisticated lick of vanilla oak. It also has an elegance you might not expect at this price.
