Edouard Leiber Cuvée Prestige 2021

Alsace AOC

From a superb vineyard and a 12th-generation family winery comes a classic French white. Most Alsace wines are one variety, but this is a blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris. Lovely pure fruit, smoky apricot and spice, shot through by limey freshness.

Alsace is a forgotten wine enclave of eastern France. It lies just over the border from Germany, to whom it has belonged in centuries gone, hence the strongly Germanic architecture, place names and cuisine. Today it is firmly French, the country's sunniest and driest region and the only one to specialise in Riesling. This tangy-fresh white is from the special Edouard Leiber vineyard and crafted by Maison Cattin, one of the oldest family wineries in all Alsace. Southeast-facing slopes ensures plenty of pure grape-ripening sunshine, while altitudes up to 300 metres in this mountainous climate means lots of freshness too. Make a date with Alsace and enjoy this wine with a creamy pork casserole or broccoli soufflé. It's delightful solo too.
