If you enjoy whiskey with an ‘e’, you should set a few of these aside now. FEW Rye is a fruity, complex whiskey, crafted in small batches and aged in small, air dried casks to imbue intriguing character into the spirit. And it’s great for cocktails.
Tasting notes
Upfront fruit with a long finish of orange, spice and apple tart
Aroma
Fruity with notes of apples, pears and plums, with spicy notes
There’s a new craft distillery movement taking hold in the States – much like the UK’s artisan gin explosion – and FEW have been crafting fine spirits at their distillery since 2011. They are based in Evanston, just north of Chicago and the home in the 19th century of Frances E. Willard, who led the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. Her efforts helped establish the national prohibition of all alcoholic drinks in the 1920s. Prohibition ended in 1933 but Evanston remained dry until June 1972, when a restaurant called The Spot was granted a licence to sell the city’s the first legal drink for over 100 years! Named in Frances E. Willard’s honour, this distillery has a cult following among UK bartenders. And FEW Rye makes a mean Old Fashioned!
