The Castaño family has always pioneered Monastrell in Yecula, experimenting with the variety, and producing warm climate wines grown at high altitude. They have been leading lights in putting the region on the map and have proven that the local grape is capable of making world class wines. Created by Ramon Castaño, this full bodied red is a blend of Monastrell, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot from unirrigated bush vines and low yielding terraces No other winery has done as much for the Monastrell grape, better known as Mourvèdre in the Rhône Valley and one of the key grapes of Châteauneuf-du-PapeThe prestigious Peñin Guide, Spain’s most respected wine guide, scored this 2012 vintage an impressive 94 points. Full bodied and intense with earthy aromas and wild berry and mineral flavours. The palate has a savoury edge with sweet spice and mocha notes and a clean acidity and long elegant finish.
