This fabulous “top of the hierarchy” Gigondas from the renowned Perrin family has all the spicy warmth and richness of Châteauneuf, but displays “the elegant side of the appellation” too (Wine Advocate). From a tiny walled vineyard, this is 5-Star.

Gigondas may not yet have the ring of Châteauneuf, but wines like this should soon raise its profile. The appellation lies not far from Châteauneuf, with the same galet strewn soil, that augments the ripening. Its wines are similar too - Grenache based with a lovely warmth, richness and long spicy finish. Clos des Tourelles is one of the very best. It's from the Perrin family, owners too of Châteauneuf's flagship Château de Beaucastel. Their fabulous Gigondas property dates back to medieval times and lies just outside the village. Its ancient walled vineyard has superb sandy clay soils and from there, Marc Perrin selects grapes for this fine red. A mix from older and younger vines gives an ideal balance of fruit, intensity and complexity.
