Star of Campania, and Basilicata next door, Aglianico is often referred to as the Barolo of the south. It certainly ages as well, beautifully illustrated here with this superb, tiny production, 95 point red, layered with flavour and complexity.

Want a delicious taste of authentic Italy? Enjoy this terrific red from Beneventano, a key appellation within Italy's Campania. The region is centred around the city of Naples, on the shin of Italy's 'boot'. Here white Falaghina and red Aglianico reign supreme. They are two of Italy's finest varieties, truly unique, but little known probably as their wines tend to be quite pricy. They are worth every penny for excitement though. This is a fabulous red from the third generation Coltrone family estate in Torrecuso. They have just 31 hectares of vineyard, all certified organic since 2001. The handpicked grapes from these are carefully vinified in their modern cellar. Simbiosi is their intensely flavoured flagship red. Open early or cellar.
