Fèlsina is a superb property just northeast of Siena, in the southern reaches of Chianti. Domenico Poggiali bought the estate in 1966, at a time when Italian viticulture was struggling. Yet he had faith and the estate has grown in size and in reputation. His son-in-law, Guiseppe Mazzocolin, took over in the 1970s, playing a significant role in its growth, then handed over the running to his son. Consultant winemaker is the highly reputed Franco Bernabei. The extensive vineyards are all tended biodynamically to best express the superb terroir of the region. Pure Sangiovese from high Classico and Colli Senesi vineyards, aged in part new oak for over 18 months, this is a masterpiece of rich fruit, depth and freshness. Decant early or cellar.
