Ferraton Père & Fils is based in Hermitage and since 1998 has benefited from the know-how of Michel Chapoutier, a close family friend. Although the estate remains independently run, winemaking is overseen by Chapoutier and it shows in the glass. Chapoutier has brought a lot to the estate most notably bio-dynamic vine-growing practices, a focus on terroir and the introduction of stringent quality controls The Wine Advocate notes “the quality at this tiny estate continues to soar” This is an unoaked cuvee, showing pure blackberry fruits and garrigue spice. Dense and rich, this wine is a clear cut above generic Côtes du Rhône. This is the first release of the superb 2016 vintage Plan de Dieu Côtes du Rhône Villages, a vintage hotly tipped to be one of the best in the last 50 years. With smooth black fruits, hints of white pepper and Provençal herbs, it’s beautifully expressive with no oak just lots of pure, fresh fruits.
