Domaine Richard Rottiers Moulin a Vent 2018

Moulin a Vent AOC

Moulin à Vent is famed for its aromatic, intense, ageworthy reds, which contrast with the lighter, easy drinking styles of other Beaujolais Crus. This is a classic, with dark fruit aromas, generous, lush black cherry fruit and a long, rich finish.

Named after its famous windmill, Moulin à Vent is also known as the ‘King of Beaujolais’ because of its aromatic, voluptuous wines that can age for a decade or more. Like other wines from the Beaujolais Crus, Moulin à Vent is made purely from Gamay, but it is the manganese rich, granitic soils that give the wine a character that, after ageing, is often compared to fine Burgundy. This lovely example comes from 2018 – a "legendary vintage” according to the official InterBeaujolais. It’s made by Richard Rottiers from the fruit of ancient vines (many over 70 years old), aged for six months in oak, on his organic estate. With violet and dark cherry aromas, it is rich and elegant, with ample black fruit, firm tannins and a long finish.

"From a great vintage, this perfumed, fruit-rich, beautifully balanced wine excels with food" Jehan Sacaze
